If you are coming to the Lake District, you just have to get onto the water! Start your adventure in Swallows and Amazons style and head over to the Lake District locations that feature in the film of Arthur Ransome’s classic children’s book. Follow in the footsteps of the famous characters and hire a kayak on Coniston or learn to sail with Glenridding Sailing Centre.

If you are still hungry for the great outdoors then Grizedale Forest, in the south Lakes offers an unrivalled day out for all the family. Choose from a variety of walking and cycling trails as a unique way to discover over 40 stunning outdoor sculptures.
Whilst you are here a visit to the village of Grasmere is a must-see. A wealth of artistic gems are just waiting to be discovered! Take a trip to the Heaton Cooper Studio in the centre of the village and whilst exploring the gallery and the current exhibition, try searching for the wooden mice located at various points throughout the studio.
During your Grasmere visit make a beeline for William Wordsworth’s inspirational home, Dove Cottage and The Wordsworth Museum. Find the cottage exactly as it was during the poet’s time living there. The museum has recently undergone a major refurbishment with superb interactive displays utilising subtle technology to enhance the visiting experience. Dove Cottage’s family events are a great way to discover Wordsworth’s poems and the life of one of England’s greatest poets.
