It’s an early start for this one but you get to see the best part of the day. We begin our adventures at the 8,000-acre Grizedale Forest. Hire a mountain bike or bring your own. There are cycling trails to suit all tastes. Grizedale is famous for its numerous sculptures – there are over 40 to find nestling in the landscape.

A highlight is the Grizedale Tarn Trail which passes through scenic woodland around Bogle Crag. The Crag looks peaceful but don’t be fooled the term ‘bogle’ means ghost!
Throughout your trek around Grizedale Forest the glistening Coniston Water will regularly glimpse at your through the trees. One of the mist beautiful lakes in the area, Coniston will be our destination this afternoon. A spot of lunch is in order first. Bring your own picnic and find a clearing with a view or take the family to the on-site café.
It's just a short drive to Coniston Water. There is plenty to do here. You can explore the quant Lakeland village, enjoy a walk around the glorious lake or get on the water. Take the family on a Swallows & Amazon Adventure kayaking to Ransome’s “Wild Cat Island”. In real life it’s Peel Island, towards the southern end of the lake – and the nice folk from Joint Adventures will get you kitted out with kayaks or canoes and take you there, landing at “The Secret Harbour.” It’s a fascinating place for the kids to explore with bags of wildlife.
Once back on the shore, Coniston is a great place to catch a few rays on a sunny day with the sound of the lake lapping the shore gently in the background. Try a paddle or a swim or bring a lilo and float gently on the water.
