Tripadvisor Traveller Rating
19 reviewsRated Five-Star Gold and finalist in the Cumbrian Tourism Awards 2010 and 2017, Waitby School is the perfect getaway for all seasons. Located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, on a fell near Kirkby Stephen in the Eden Valley, Waitby School enjoys uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside; it is perfect for unwinding in luxury amid utter tranquillity, but close enough to Kirkby Stephen not to feel isolated.
Originally built in 1680, Grade II listed Waitby and Smardale School now sleeps six to seven people in complete comfort.
Waitby is ideal for couples seeking a romantic idyll; practical for walking or cycling enthusiasts (Kirkby Stephen is on Wainwright's legendary Coast-to-Coast route); safe for families with children; and a stepping stone for guests wanting to explore the magnificent Lakes, Dales, County Durham or the Pennines.
On our doorstep we have castles, historic houses, museums, gardens, waterfalls and rivers, fells and nature reserves, ancient towns, country pubs, restaurants and the Settle-Carlisle Railway.
Waitby School has under-floor heating, a whirlpool bath and luxury hand-made kitchen, complemented by oak and slate flooring and a woodburning stove. It has a flat screen entertainment and Bose sound system, Sonos and Sky package, and a lovingly curated library of books for all tastes and ages.
