Why not indulge in a bit of winter magic and take part in the Winter Droving Festival?
Every year Penrith marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the winter season in a celebration of light, fire and rural life. In 2024, the festival will take place on 26th October.
Join in this vibrant street festival, which celebrates rural life with a day of fun, food, masquerade and fire. The festival, which has a motto "turn your clocks back 400 years”, is a staple of the autumnal calendar. During the festival, Penrith’s streets become remeniscent of a medieval market with traditional mulled wine and hot chestnuts, alongside the finest local produce. There’s street theatre, local market stalls, live music and the highlight of the day: a fire and lantern procession which travels through the town, watched by thousands of spectators.
Visitors are encouraged to don masks and many make their own for the occasion - so it’s time to get creative!
