Award-winning meats, one of Britain’s most famous desserts and a biscuit that was eaten by Sir Edmund Hillary atop Everest – Cumbria and the Lake District’s hamper of local produce is better stocked than most.
From the legendary Cumberland sausage to the tasty salt marsh lamb, our choice of locally produced meats is exceptional. Grasmere gingerbread has been made in the same place according to the same recipe since the middle of the 19th century; sticky toffee pudding was invented on Ullswater and perfected in Cartmel; and the famous Kendal mint cake has been made by the Romneys of Kendal since 1918.
We are famous for our beers and ales, but you can also try our refreshing juices and cordials – perhaps an Elderflower Fizz or an organic apple juice made with fruit plucked directly from the orchard.
Our selection of seasonal jams and preserves are made with local fruit and age-old recipes – whether for a rich Damson jam straight out of the Lyth Valley, a smooth lemon curd or a fabulous pink grapefruit and gin marmalade.
