Tripadvisor Traveller Rating
377 reviewsGet behind the wheel with this brilliant 4x4 experience with Graythwaite Adventure. With careful planning and consideration for the natural landscape, we’ve designed the Lake District’s only off-road course with BORDA (British Off Road Driving Association) accreditation and BORDA qualified instructors providing expert tuition. Not only that, guests enjoy unrivalled views from the summit. We love to teach first time off-road drivers as well as improve the skills of those more experienced. Whether you're a solo traveller or a party of 4, you'll have your own vehicle and dedicated qualified instructor.
Our vehicle; Graythwaite Adventure are proud to be brand ambassadors for the INEOS Grenadier and since the first time we sat behind the wheel of an early prototype, we've been blown away by them. We're passionate about sharing the experience and showcasing the Grenadier's incredible off-road capabilities. The one-hour experience is ideal for anyone who has followed the vehicle's journey and now wants to see what the hype is all about in the Grenadier's natural habitat; off-highway. For those who are lucky enough to own a Grenadier but would like to learn how to use it properly, we'd recommend the two-hour experience.
Following recent controversy within the National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site it’s important to point out that we avoid green lanes, and this activity is carried out in an environmentally sustainable way on private land on a course accredited by the British Off Road Driving Association and the IOPD, that is constantly maintained.
Guests to Graythwaite Adventure can enjoy a variety of other awesome experiences; clay pigeon shooting, archery, axe throwing and bushcraft all year round, and RIB boat tours April to October.
Experience : Explore : Escape.
Upon arrival at our 4x4 and Shooting Site, please make use of our free parking before meeting with one of our friendly and experienced instructors. Following introductions, you’ll board the Grenadier for a 2-minute drive through the estate to the start of the off-road course. During the short drive, your instructor will discuss any previous off-road driving experience, any reservations, and your aims for the adventure. Once at the course, your instructor will talk you through the automatic controls, sustainable driving techniques and safety considerations before you get behind the wheel. Then, it’s over to you, with your instructor in the passenger seat to help you navigate the course. Drive time is one hour, which will be shared between those of you in your party who’d like to drive. As with all our activities, we only offer private experiences meaning we don’t mix bookings, which allows us to concentrate on you and your guest(s) exclusively. 1 or 2-hour experiences available.
