The day begins with a warm welcome in Ambleside, where Jonny provides an overview of the itinerary and discusses the key photography techniques to explore. Armed with cameras, tripods, and enthusiasm, the group departs to the first location: Rydal Water or Blea Tarn. This serene area of water offers reflections of the surrounding fells and stunning compositions featuring iconic stone bridges and vibrant morning light. Jonny guides participants in mastering settings like aperture and shutter speed to capture the water’s mirror-like quality.
Next, a short hike takes the group to Rydal Cave or Langdale Valley, perfect for experimenting with contrast, shadows, and dramatic framing. Jonny offers tips on using natural light and highlights creative ways to bring out texture in the stone.
A break for lunch at a cozy local café allows everyone to recharge. This is also a time for reviewing the morning’s shots, with Jonny providing constructive feedback and answering technical questions.
The journey continues to Derwentwater, one of Jonny’s favorite spots. The combination of calm waters, wooden jetties, and the dramatic backdrop of Catbells offers endless photographic opportunities. Jonny encourages participants to focus on storytelling through their compositions, helping them capture the Lake District’s timeless charm.
As the day progresses, the group moves to Ashness Bridge, a classic Lake District landmark. Here, Jonny explains techniques for capturing the flow of water in the beck while maintaining sharpness in the surrounding landscape.
The finale takes place at Tarn Hows, a location renowned for its breathtaking views during the golden hour. As the sun sets, the landscape transforms, and Jonny shares tips on using golden light to add warmth and depth to images. He also guides participants through manual adjustments for low-light conditions.
After the shoot, the group gathers for a brief editing workshop, where Jonny demonstrates simple post-processing techniques to enhance the day’s captures. Participants leave with stunning photos, a deeper understanding of photography, and an unforgettable experience in one of England’s most beautiful regions.
This photo tour caters to all skill levels. Jonny’s approachable teaching style ensures beginners feel confident, while seasoned photographers are challenged to refine their craft.
