The Famous Autumn Red Deer Rut in the Ullswater and Martindale area of the Lake District is a hidden gem as the bellowing of stags echoes around Martindale and Boredale. Join us with your binoculars to experience this truly magical connection to nature.
On our Autumn Red Deer Rutting Special – 1, 2 or 3 day break, walking the fells above Ullswater. This is the time of year to you hear the famous Red Deer of the Martindale Valley Rutting and their bellowing echoing around the valleys.
Day 1 we will start with a trip on the Ullswater Steamers, returning up through the magic of the Martindale Valley and up over Beda Fell.
Day 2 is an early start, to go hear the deer during the optimum time of day, with the opportunity to see the sun rise over the fells as the Red Deer bellow all around you.
Day 3 is a fabulous hike with glorious views up over Place Fell to hear the Red Deer far below and to the east down in the valley of Boredale.
The Ullswater Steamers are weather dependent, but we will have 3 amazing days whatever the weather!
We can make each day as gentle or strenuous as you would like, although each party member must be comfortable with walking in the hills, albeit on trails, with a 6-mile walk with approximately 600m ascent each day.
Day 1 - 9:30 start
Day 2 - 6 am start
Day 3 - 9:30 start
Bespoke full or half days tailored for you are available during the whole of October, and can be delivered with gentle less challenging routes and terrain from deep inside the martindale valley.
Deer Hikes are available outside of Rutting season also.
Ullswater Steamer fairs (subject to weather) & lunch/snacks are NOT in your break.
We look forward to taking you out on your adventure.
