329 reviewsThe Wayside is a beautifully renovated hidden gem in an idyllic, secluded location in the Western Lake District, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overlooked by the magnificent Black Combe Fell, and beach access is just a short walk away.
The spacial and characterful rooms include stunning exposed beams and stone and all with en-suite bathrooms, offer a relaxing stay, with “home away from home” feel.
The restaurant and bar area provides a relaxing and comfortable setting for our guests to enjoy home cooked food, using local produce and ingredients as much as we can. Our bar, Whisky Barn, offers a variety of whiskies, local ales, premium lager, and wines.

Wayside Cottage, MillomWayside Cottage 1637 is a charming old (circa 1637) two bedroom cottage attached to The Wayside.…
When travelling from south, junction 36 on M6 is the closest motorway junction to The Wayside. After leaving M6, follow the sign for "Barrow-in-Furness / Western Lakes" on A590. At Greenodd roundabout, take the second exit to A5092 (A595) and follow the sign for "Whitehaven / Western Lake District". Follow A595 for about 35-40 min. After Whicham Valley, turn right at a T-junction. Whitbeck is the first village on the right. Pass the church and proceed further out of the village, half a mile later you will see stone building on the right, right after driving over the brow of hill. Car park entrance is on the right, after driving pass the building. Please be aware that although the postcode (LA19 5UP) can be used for navigation, for the last half mile some systems may take you up on a very narrow lane, next to the Whitbeck church. Please ignore this and continue on the main road. The entrance is located on the A595.
Silecroft train station is 3 min drive away from The Wayside. We recommend to book a local taxi in advance. There is no local bus service in the area.
