Surrounded by stunning natural beauty, including the majestic Black Combe Fell, guests can enjoy beautiful mountain views and easy access to nearby beaches, perfect for both relaxation and exploration. Its secluded location provides a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for those seeking a tranquil getaway while being well-positioned to explore the Western, Central, and Southern Lakes as well as the coastline.
With just four elegantly designed en-suite rooms, including a pet-friendly annex, The Wayside offers an intimate, semi-private setting perfect for unwinding away from the crowds. Dog owners especially appreciate the property's direct access to scenic walking paths, making it an excellent base for both you and your furry companion to enjoy the great outdoors.
At The Wayside, we take pride in our use of fresh, seasonal, and locally-sourced ingredients in both our breakfast and evening menus (reservation required). From locally-produced bacon and sausages to Herdwick lamb raised in the region, and line-caught wild seabass from Morecambe Bay, each dish is carefully crafted from scratch. Even the bread for our toast and baked beans at breakfast are homemade, adding to the authentic, farm-to-table experience.
The on-site Whisky Barn is a fully licensed bar offering a vast collection of whiskies alongside local ales, gins, and wines. For whisky enthusiasts, personalised tasting experiences are available in the cosy, relaxed ambiance of the bar, creating a memorable experience for all who visit.
Whether you're seeking adventure or simply wish to relax, The Wayside and Whisky Barn provides the perfect blend of comfort, luxury, and authentic Cumbrian charm.

Wayside Cottage 1637, MillomWayside Cottage 1637 is a charming old (circa 1637) two bedroom cottage attached to The Wayside.…
When travelling from the south, junction 36 on M6 is the closest motorway junction to The Wayside. After leaving M6, follow the sign for "Barrow-in-Furness / Western Lakes" on A590. At Greenodd roundabout, take the second exit to A5092 (A595) and follow the sign for "Whitehaven / Western Lake District". Follow A595 for about 35-40 min. After Wicham Valley, turn right at a T-junction. Whitbeck is the first village on the right. Pass the church and proceed further out of the village, half a mile later you will see The Wayside on the right, right after driving over the brow of the hill. Car park entrance is on the right after driving past the building.
Please be aware that although the postcode (LA19 5UP) can be used for navigation, for the last half mile some systems may take you up on a very narrow lane, next to the Whitbeck church. Please ignore this and continue on the main road. The Wayside entrance is located on the A595.
Silecroft train station is 3 min drive away from The Wayside. We recommend to book a local taxi in advance. There is no local bus service in the area.
