Open every day, The Lingholm Kitchen & Walled Garden has quickly become a popular Lakeland destination for Breakfast, Lunch and Afternoon Tea.
Serving a range of locally sourced foods alongside artisan breads and cakes which are all made in the adjoining Lingholm Bakery. With real barista coffee from a local Cumbrian roasters, a wide range of eclectic teas and treats that are hard to resist, The Lingholm Kitchen will not disappoint.
The café has a stunning 100 foot long glass wall looking down on the octagonal walled garden and up to Skiddaw. The walled garden sits on the same spot as the old Lingholm kitchen gardens which Beatrix Potter credited as her original inspiration for Mr McGregor’s garden in The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
Within the walled garden is an outside gallery dedicated to the work of Beatrix Potter in the Derwentwater area, much of it undertaken whilst she stayed at Lingholm.
Beatrix Potter Heritage
Central to the Lingholm Estate is a grand Victorian mansion where Beatrix Potter spent ten summer holidays between 1885 and 1907, and also wrote Squirrel Nutkin.
The estate’s Victorian Walled Garden is on the exact spot of the old kitchen gardens, which Beatrix Potter credited as the inspiration for Mr. McGregor’s garden in The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
Walkers can enjoy a footpath through the estate from the Catbells path leading up to the Walled Garden, alongside a café, artisan bakery and shop. For longer visits, there are also an array of unique self-catering properties on the estate.
Gift Shop
Within The Lingholm Kitchen there is a sizable gift shop selling a range of quality gifts, pottery, toys, cards and books.
