4x4 Off-Road Driving with Kankku

A Kankku day is really special because it is a genuine off road driving experience rather than driving on a contrived off road course. In one of our ex-military Land Rovers, YOU drive the rough and rocky terrain and to appreciate the spectacular Lakeland landscape of lakes and mountains.

The routes are varied and you may find yourself navigating through forests, fording Lakeland streams, or carefully negotiating narrow mountain trails; whatever the terrain, there is always a great sense of adventure as you make your way through stunning Lake District hills and valleys.

Help and guidance is on hand from the experienced Kankku team in order to keep you exploring and to deliver specialist knowledge; this is delivered in a relaxed format and accompanied by tales of local interest and legend. All of our team have experience of dealing with both complete newcomers to off road driving as well as drivers with more confidence and experience.

The Expedition is our most popular trail in which you will be out for about 5 hours on a cross section of off road terrain. There is time to get intimate with your 4x4 and the landscape, to enjoy a break for a pub lunch and then to hit the trail again and apply Kankku style "intelligent off road driving techniques" to find your off road limits. Prices are £285 per vehicle (rather than per person) and so you can come as a couple or could bring a couple of friends with you to share the day if you wished. Importantly, you won't have to share the vehicle (and driving time) with our other customers on the day.

We also offer a 2 hour Expedition which costs £175 per vehicle which follows the same format as above, for a shorter off road journey, which makes for a great taster.

If you have your own 4x4 or you can join us on a 5 hour Expedition which costs £85 or join the 2 hour £45 for the two hour journey.

Kankku Self Drive 4x4 Safari

Once you have joined Kankku on one of their technical adventures, the next stage of your journey off road might be a Self Drive Safari.

A Kankku Safari is about discovery - finding normally unseen parts of the Lake District by specialist 4x4. Kankku's tough and capable ex-army Land Rovers take you back to basics to simply enjoy the inspirational Lake District environment. Drive yourself on a long and adventurous journey exploring a mix of historic off road Lakeland tracks and winding back roads, all at your own pace.

If a Safari is the right day for you, we will start the day with a briefing plus introduction to the map and a road book direction system which you will use to navigate. You can add in a short walk, relaxing lunch stop or visit to a spectacular view point along the route to complete your day of intrepid adventure.

A safari experience is great with friends or family… and you can share the driving. We recommend a maximum of four people, but a very cosy seven is possible!
