There are many locations to watch the cyclists along the 198km route which starts at Carlisle castle and finishes at the Angel of the North, Gateshead.
From Carlisle the stage will head south via Dalston and an opening intermediate sprint at Motherby before entering the Lake District National Park and running alongside Ullswater, England’s second largest lake.
After passing through Pooley Bridge and over the village’s iconic new stainless steel road bridge, riders will contest a second sprint in Penrith, heading on to the eight kilometre climb of Hartside that will be the first of three ŠKODA King of the Mountains climbs. This route will be retracing large parts of the popular Sea to Sea (C2C) route. Upon leaving Cumbria, the Tour of Britain will continue to head east before finishing by the Angel of the North sculpture in Gateshead. Top tips for spectators from the Tour of Britain
- Check before you travel! Take note of the route, road closures and ETAs that may be affecting you
- Grab a safe spectator spot early and enjoy the build up to the Peloton arriving
- If you can’t get to a start or finish location, check out where your nearest Sprints or King of the Mountains climbs points are along the route
- Do not obstruct the riders in any way. Keep children and animals back from the roadside
- The whole stage is live on TV. ITV4 will be showing live coverage of the entire stage plus a nightly highlights programme at 20:00, bringing you all of the best bits of the day’s action
