Home to Summer Jump horseracing, dubbed the Glastonbury of Racing, Cartmel Racecourse is a fabulous place to spend a day out in the South Lakes. Just a few miles from Lake Windermere in the beautiful, historic village of Cartmel, you can enjoy all the thrills of jump racing with added delights of the funfair, music events and dedicated family fun days! On site you can sample from some of our range of delicious local food and drink vendors, or browse local stall holders. If you would rather a DIY approach, you are more than welcome to bring your garden to us, with all picnics including alcohol and BBQs welcome on all race days. Why not explore the local surroundings, too - nicknamed the Michelin Village, home to excellent eateries from coffee shops to fine dining restaurants, with a trip to the beautiful Priory and local artisanal shops to top the day off.

Cartmel Racecourse is most easily accessed from junction 36 of the M6 via the A590. Follow the signs towards Barrow and Ulverston until you reach the turn-off for High Newton, where you will also see a sign for Cartmel Priory. Our temporary yellow event signage will be in place from the A590.
By Taxi If you are planning to travel by taxi, it is strongly recommended that you book in advance, as it is unlikely that there will be many available on the day. To reduce traffic, we ask for all taxis to drop off and pick up from the lay-by opposite Cartmel Priory School, near the Pig and Whistle public house on the edge of the village. By Train The closest station to Cartmel Racecourse is Cark-in-Cartmel Train Station.
