You are here: Home > Things to Do > Whinlatter Walking Trails
Whinlatter is a great place for walking with many miles of gravel roads, paths and tracks to explore. Create your own adventure or follow one of our clearly marked routes, with a wide range of distances and difficulty levels there’s something for you.
Discover the wonders of Whinlatter on the Wow Trail walk, taking in the forest’s most breathtaking views. Along the way you’ll find out why the forest is here, its history and how it is cared for to support wildlife and people today. You’ll enjoy opportunities for wildlife spotting and forest bathing.
The Wow Trail follows surfaced paths with a maximum gradient of 1 in 7 and a minimum width of 2m, There are no stiles, steps or gates but there are some gradual and steeper slopes. This trail may be suitable for some off-road mobility scooters.
Why not explore our circular route taking in the summit of Seat How (5.75km), or enjoy a woodland walk along the Comb Beck Trail (both 2.8km). Wainwright baggers can use Whinlatter as a base to access Lord’s Seat, Barf and Grisedale Pike (make sure to #BeAdventureSmart and check the weather, your gear and experience before heading off!)
For people who are less mobile, our Wow trail is also accessible by tramper, hired from Outdoor Mobility. If you’re not an existing member, you can easily sign up online at www.outdoormobility.org. An annual membership costs £10 or a taster membership that lasts for two weeks costs £2.50.
All new members will be provided with an induction on how to use the Tramper and existing users will be offered a quick refresher.
Prebooking is recommended, visit www.outdoormobility.org/ to learn more.
