Discover… Pottery Throwing | 5 Oct & 9 Nov | 11.15am-12.45pm | 1.30-3pm | 3.30-5pm | £50pp per session | 18+ yrs | Tutor Chris Barnes | Studio 2
This is a fun intensive throwing workshop that will concentrate on improving your throwing technique on the potter's wheel. Suitable for any ability, whether you've never tried it before, or want to hone your existing pottery skills.
What will the workshop cover and how will it be taught?
With just four students per session, the workshops tutor Chris will give individual tailored help and instruction designed to generally improve throwing technique and focus on areas chosen by each student.
Centring clay, improving cylinder height, bowl technique, throwing plates, making galleries and lids, and throwing bellied forms are all possible subjects of focus.
The emphasis is on practice rather than finishing work but students will be able to choose one piece to be fired and glazed after the workshop which can be collected at a later date, usually 4-6 weeks after the session.
If you have always wanted to throw larger and lighter pots, or just master the all-important centring of clay on the wheel, Chris is ready to share the approaches and techniques which work.
If you would like to book as a family or group of friends, please contact Learning and Engagement Manager becca.ellson@breweryarts.co.uk for further information.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring a clean apron and/or wear old but clean clothes. Bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them. It is advisable to keep fingernails short and trimmed to aid the throwing process.
Are there any additional costs?
All tools, equipment and clay is included. At the end of the session choose one piece to be fired and glazed and collected at a later date. Work must be clearly identified with the maker's initials.
