Drawing class with Libby Robinson of the Fell Pony Heritage Trust. A unique opportunity to draw, paint or sculpt a Fell Pony in the beautiful setting of Brantwood's lakeside meadow.
All famous horse artists drew from life to start their paintings, like Stubbs, Munnings and Lucy Kemp-Welch. Your tutor for the day is Libby Robinson who has drawn horses and ponies from an early age and trained as an illustrator before becoming a farmer. Her chosen breed for life has been the native pony of Cumbria, the Fell Pony, which has roamed the Northern hills for centuries and has been used in farming and industry that has shaped the Cumbrian landscape. The Fell Pony's heritage and strong bonds with humans have also inspired human creativity in the past. Changing patterns in farming have overlooked these beautiful animals and the nature of these ponies, so perfectly adapted to their fell landscape. Your model will be Fell Pony Ebony, one of Libby's mares living on the open fell tops all year round.
The day will start with introductions, a study of the pony's form, taking notes and sketches of the textures and overall presence of Ebony's character to start your piece. Artists can work in their chosen medium to build a basic picture composition before proceeding to a final piece. Please bring your own preferred materials (shelter and seating provided!)
