The popular event 'Music for a Summer Evening' returns to Hawkshead Parish Church in June and July with a varied programme of 11 concerts and recitals. The programme, which has been running at the 12th Century Church for almost 60 years, provides an entertaining series of musical concerts for Cumbria residents and summer visitors to the area.
This year in addition to returning favourites such as pianist Duncan Glenday, and flautist, David Edmonds, the programme welcomes 'Clerical Errors' - where Musical Ministers and Vocal Vicars will perform an eclectic repertoire of classical, folk and contemporary music.
Also in the programme for the first time will be the Herdwyck Consort. Founded in 2010, the consort has quickly established a reputation for its emotive and exciting performances. It has a wide-ranging repertoire but specialises in music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
Other returning acts are Manchester Chorale - one of the best known names in the Sainsbury's Choir of the Year Competition with regular televised appearances in the final stages of the competition. The programme will also feature Encore Opera, South Lakes Acappella, and newcomers, Rombalds Recorders and Burneside Brass Band.
The free concerts are on each Tuesday evening in June and July at 7:30 p.m. at Hawkshead Parish Church, plus one on Saturday 6th July at 7:30 p.m. For the full programme please visit:
Car parking for concert goers is free on the main village car park courtesy of the Lake District National Park Authority.
The concerts are sponsored by the following local businesses: Graythwaite Estates, Pure Lakes, Poppi Red, Stewardsons of Hawkshead and Collins and Butterworth Pharmacy.
Please Note: Entry to the concerts is free but there will be a voluntary collection in aid of the Church, local and national charities.
