The Graythwaite Estate has been owned by the Sandys family since the mid-16th Century. The 5000-acre private Estate is located within the South Cumbria Low Fells and is situated on the western shore of Lake Windermere within the Lake district National Park and World Heritage Site.
With 38 Self catering dog friendly properties to choose from, the Estate has unsurpassed natural beauty from Lakeside to Woodland views. A romantic break for two, an adventurous family vacation or an elaborate celebration, The Graythwaite Estate has accommodation fit for all occasions.
From the comfort of your doorstep, a short walk into the woods can lead to you spotting red and roe deer, otters, badgers, foxes, pine martins, owls, and buzzards to name a few. For those who are looking for a little more adventure, properties with direct lake access means you can bring your own craft to launch or hire from our partners at Graythwaite Adventure who will deliver to your doorstep for the duration of your stay. All guests are welcome to launch their own craft from Grubbins point, or why not try wild swimming?
Looking for something more relaxing? Our woodfired hot tubs provide the perfect place to sit back and enjoy the uninterrupted views of Graythwaite Hall parkland or listen to the wildlife in the woods around the property.
Planning a wedding? Our Grade II listed Georgian Manor, Silverholme has it all. There is nowhere more romantic to be swept of your feet than our picture-perfect lakeside venue with space to celebrate with up to 200 guests.
Our Estate is steeped in history with literary connections, the Sandys family founded and continue to govern the nearby Hawkshead Grammar School where William Wordsworth attended, and Beatrix Potter even named our very own Esthwaite Hall home to her character Jeremy Fisher.
