As incredible as our scenic lakes and mountains are, The Lake District, Cumbria also boasts miles upon miles of stunning coastline from the Solway Firth in the north, to Morecambe Bay in the south, where you will discover secluded beaches, majestic castles, hidden lakes and awe-inspiring mountains.
The constant meeting of sea and land has left its imprint on Cumbria’s coast. Moulding isolated bays, proud headlands, storybook islands and fascinating tales. Legends tell of smuggling, the spice trade and Iron Age forts.
Nature and wildlife thrive here, the coastline boasts two areas of outstanding natural beauty and numerous nature reserves. The secluded beaches offer an ideal habitat for grey seals and many rare birds.
Being sandwiched between the Mountains of the Lake District and the Irish Sea, this area keeps much of its traditions and the Cumbrian way of life. Each area of the coast has its own unique character.
As 2024 is the “Year of the Coast”, this 200 mile tour has been designed to inspire you to explore this captivating and unique area. The route has been split into smaller sections, all do-able in a day. However, this would barely be scratching the surface and you could easily fill a few days in each.
