Tripadvisor Traveller Rating
374 reviewsWith stunning views of Lake Windermere on the private Graythwaite Estate, our course is a real gem taking in the natural landscape with instruction delivered by our qualified team. We’re stoked to teach first time drivers and improve the skills of seasoned pros alike. With your instructor in the passenger seat, you’ll negotiate steep inclines, jaw dropping descents, epic leans and water crossings, all with unrivalled views. The one-hour experience involves one hour behind the wheel and each vehicle comfortably allows up to 4 adults who can either share the driving, or some may prefer to simply enjoy the ride. Children love the experience as much as adults and are more than welcome. We ask that you fit your car seat in the Land Rover for those children that need them. For parties of 5 or 6, you can book two Land Rovers for a convoy drive, or one of our 7-seater vehicles so please ensure you let us know in the notes section of the booking process and we can assign the right Land Rover.
For us, there is only one 4x4 – the original and best – the Land Rover Defender. In Land Rover’s own words off-roading is all about ‘going as slow as possible and as fast as necessary’ and believe us, this is the most fun you’ll ever have at 5 miles per hour! 😊
It’s important to point out that we avoid green lanes, and this activity is carried out in an environmentally sustainable way on private land on a course accredited by the British Off Road Driving Association and the IOPD, that we constantly maintain.
Guests to Graythwaite Adventure can enjoy a variety of other awesome land and water-based experiences; archery, axe throwing, clay pigeon shooting, bushcraft, canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding and RIB boat tours. Land-based activities are available all year, watersports April to October. Experience : Explore : Escape.
Itinerary
Upon arrival at our 4x4 and Shooting Site, please make use of our free parking before meeting with one of our friendly and experienced instructors. Following introductions, you’ll board the Land Rover for a 2-minute drive through the estate to the start of the off-road course. During the short drive, your instructor will discuss any previous off-road driving experience, any reservations, and your aims for the adventure. Once at the course, your instructor will talk you through the manual controls, sustainable driving techniques and safety considerations before you get behind the wheel. Then, it’s over to you, with your instructor in the passenger seat to help you navigate the course. Drive time is one hour, which will be shared between those of you in your party who’d like to drive. As with all our activities, we only offer private experiences meaning we don’t mix bookings, which allows us to concentrate on you and your guest(s) exclusively. 1 or 2-hour experiences available, and convoys for larger groups.
