Location: Across Cumbria
Duration: Full Day
To celebrate Cumbria Tourism’s 50th anniversary, the team are trying out 50 tourism experiences we haven’t tried before. Follow along as we continue our journey across the Lake District, Cumbria throughout the year! On this experience, the team from Cumbria Tourism explores Cumbria's scenic roads on the Cumbrian EV Trail.
As part of our 50th-anniversary celebrations, we recently embarked on a unique journey – taking inspiration from the Cumbrian EV trail. This time, instead of lacing up our hiking boots or grabbing our bikes, we hopped into the fully-electric Kia EV9, thanks to our partnership with Lloyd Motor Group. An all-electric 7-seater SUV. With its impressive range of 349 miles, it was the perfect companion to explore Cumbria’s scenic beauty while embracing sustainable travel.
The Kia EV9 provided a smooth, quiet ride as we navigated Cumbria's winding roads and breathtaking landscapes. Our goal? To showcase how easy it is for visitors to explore this stunning region while reducing their environmental impact.
We began our journey fully charged from our HQ in Staveley. From there, we set out to experience some of Cumbria’s most iconic locations, whilst highlighting the ever-growing EV charging infrastructure within the county along the way.
We headed to Ambleside, calling at Brockhole on Windermere, where if needed EV chargers allow you to top up while enjoying the gardens and activities. Ambleside is the perfect base for walking, with a host of walks available from the village centre. Moving further into the Lakes we reached Grasmere, famed for it’s connection to William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found."
Further north, we reached Keswick, home to endless outdoor adventures. With plenty of EV charge points in town, including at Booths Supermarket, we could relax as we explored and enjoyed the town’s vibrant atmosphere, knowing the Kia EV9 was charging up for our next adventure. Despite being right in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Keswick is still only 20 minutes from the M6, making it extremely accessible by car.
Our final stop of our journey was Ullswater. Just to the east of Keswick, our destination of choice was Pooley Bridge, located on the northern tip of Ullswater. From here you can enjoy a number of eateries, some popular walks or even a cruise onboard Ullswater Steamers.
The Cumbrian EV Trial highlighted just how easy and convenient it is to explore the Lake District with an electric vehicle. Whether you're cruising through dramatic landscapes or stopping off at a quaint village, there are plenty of opportunities to park up, charge your car, and continue your adventure.
With more and more EV chargers being installed across Cumbria, visiting the county with an electric vehicle has never been more accessible. Plus, by choosing a sustainable travel option like the Kia EV9, you’re helping to reduce your carbon footprint whilst enjoying everything the county has to offer.
