Location: Various locations to suit you around The Lake District, Cumbria
Venue: E-bike Safaris
Duration: Half-day
As part of Cumbria Tourism’s 50th anniversary, the team are trying out 50 different tourism experiences throughout the year – to help inspire your own days out across the Lake District, Cumbria. On this experience, Rob Rhys and Rob Cowley had the chance to try out E-Bike Safaris, which offers electric bike hire and multi-day tours across the Lake District, delivered to a location of your choice.
We kicked off from our Staveley HQ, where Phil, the owner of E-Bike Safaris met us, as he does with clients around the Lake District. He provided some safety instructions and an introduction to the bikes, which was perfect since it was our first time on e-bikes.
He had also very kindly pre-programmed two routes into the GPS system fitted to one of our bikes, so we had the option of either a shorter or longer route. The routes were circular and based from our starting location of the Cumbria Tourism offices in Staveley. We opted for the longer route!
After gearing up, we set out on a beautiful, crisp autumn morning, following a scenic 22km route through the picturesque lakeland villages of Ings, then Crook and on to the Lyth Valley. We had certainly picked a good day for it, with the stunning landscape and gentle autumn light making for a perfect backdrop.
The route took us as far as the village of Winster, where we decided to have a quick stop to take in our beautiful surroundings, before continuing back to the Cumbria Tourism offices. In total, with a few stops along the way, the whole circuit of 22km took us just under two hours.
Taking us on some amazing quiet lanes that gave us terrific views of the rugged and beautiful Lake District landscape, the route also included some challenging gradients, but with the superb combination of gears and electric power settings available to us on the e-bikes, we tackled them effortlessly and were able to power up inclines in a way that we would have found impossible on traditional bikes.
Using an E-Bike is a truly accessible and fun way to explore the beauty of the Lake District, making it ideal for anyone (over the age of 14) to explore this wonderful landscape on two wheels, with a little extra comfort and ease.
E-bikes from E-Bike safaris can be booked prior to visiting the Lake District, Cumbria and your bike(s) can be delivered to a location of your choice for your arrival, including railway stations or your accommodation. As well as safety accessories, E-Bike Safaris provide each E-Bike with a set of panniers for taking additional clothing, shopping on route and for taking your own picnics. Each bike is also supplied with a phone mount for easy navigation along the country lanes and trails. On delivery of the bikes, you will receive an orientation of the equipment, along with proposed cycle routes and suggested attractions.
