Location: Penrith
Venue: Rheged
Duration: Afternoon
To celebrate Cumbria Tourism’s 50th anniversary, the team are trying out 50 tourism experiences we haven’t tried before. Follow along as we continue our journey across the Lake District, Cumbria throughout the year! On this experience, Bea Hooson and her family visited the newest exhibition at Rheged, 'Everest Revisited'…
We recently visited Rheged specially for the opening of the ‘Everest Revisited’ exhibition, a thoughtfully curated showcase of the human exploration of the world’s highest peak. Through original artworks, historic photographs and authentic rarely seen artefacts, the exhibition tells the stories of Everest climbers, from the early pioneers to today’s record-setters. Cumbrian links to Everest’s history are also highlighted, alongside the celebration of local artists and creators.
Throughout the winter, Rheged is also hosting a robust programme of film screenings, talks, Q&As and more, alongside the exhibition itself. These will explore the history, challenges, and stories of those who have faced Everest over the years, so they are definitely worth attending!
A visit to Rheged is never a disappointment. On a dark Winter’s evening, the entrance ‘tunnel’ is lit up and draws you in. There is lots on offer inside, from shops and cafes to the cinema, gallery and children’s play area - Rheged is a day out in its own right. With the provenance of ingredients and products being a priority across the shops and eateries, you can be sure that you are getting a true taste of what Cumbria has to offer all in one place.
Everest Revisited is open daily from 10.00am until 4:30pm until 23rd February 2025, and is £5 to enter with 16 & under free. Don’t miss this inspiring journey to the roof of the world - now on display in Cumbria!
