Tripadvisor Traveller Rating
374 reviewsWe may be biased but genuinely believe we run watersports from one of the best locations in the Lake District; Grubbins Point on Windermere. From this sheltered bay on the southwest shore, we offer both instructed lessons and kayak hire.
Journeying in one of the sit on top kayaks is a perfect way to explore the small islands and bays of Graythwaite Estate’s private shoreline. We feel no visit to the Lakes is complete without some time on the water and this is an ideal way to do just that. The benefits of an instructed session are that you will master the basic strokes quickly and journey with ease to make the most of your session … we’ll also be there for safety support for added confidence. Alternatively, you may opt to hire kayaks instead, without an instructor, allowing you to head off on your own. We’ll help get you on the water, give you tips to get you started and provide water safety cover, so you’ll feel looked after.
Guests to Graythwaite Adventure can enjoy a variety of other awesome land and water-based experiences; 4x4 off-road driving, archery, axe throwing, clay pigeon shooting, bushcraft, canoeing, stand up paddleboarding and RIB boat tours. Land-based activities are available all year, watersports April to October. Experience : Explore : Escape.
Itinerary
Upon arrival at our Watersports Site, please make use of our free parking before meeting with one of our friendly and experienced instructors at the watersports hub. Following introductions, we’ll kit you out with buoyancy aids. We provide all the equipment; kayaks, paddles, and buoyancy aids whether you book a lesson or hire only. The exact content of lessons is tailored to suit you and your party – it’ll include chatting with your instructor, more advanced paddle strokes, journeying or fun games and even some jumping in! Wetsuits aren’t necessary unless you plan to swim although it’s likely you’ll get a wet bottom, so we recommend bringing a change of clothes. As with all our activities, we only offer private experiences meaning we don’t mix bookings, which allows us to concentrate on you and your guest(s) exclusively. Lessons are 1.5 hours, and hires are available for 1-hour, 2-hours, or 4-hours.
