Designed with the thoughtful traveller in mind, we aim to show you the hidden gems of the Lake District and also offer the option of electric bikes. Therefore as you pedal through countryside you can get to know the local landscape, culture, history and cuisine, and at the end of the day unwind in our favourite boutique hotels.

The electrifying beauty of the area has earned it world wide acclaim with its magnificent mountains, breath taking stretches of open water and beautiful villages. Yet there is a huge challenge in finding gentle cycling routes that don’t involve too many hills or much traffic and stay true to our slow travel mantra and delight of hidden gems. The Electric Lakes tour ticks all these boxes and by using an electric bike you will cruise along not only the lanes and tracks we have found for you but also on lakes by boat and by steam railway at the end of the tour. You will pedal at the foot of giant Skiddaw and Helvellyn mountains, cycle waterside along lake shores, speed past crags and fells, explore farms, houses and villages loved by artists and writers and spy landscapes that inspired Wainwright’s many walks. We have picked boutique hotels and characterful village inns and houses for overnight locations; there is an excellent choice of locally sourced foods to be found in the cafés and restaurants and an arts and crafts heritage, unique gardens and a ruined castle to enjoy.

Much of the route is off the beaten track, through stunning woods, past cosy inns and over fords to small breweries and tiny water mills. Enjoy wonderful gardens, a Georgian town, an intriguing castle, the homes of Ruskin, Wordsworth and Potter, a vibrant food scene and stays in 4 different locations from tranquil lake side to ancient market town and buzzing waterfront. No wonder we call it Electric Lakes!
