Lakes & Dales Loop
This spectacular circuit encompasses some of the lesser-known corners of Cumbria away from the crowds. With views of iconic mountain tops to awe inspiring dales and crystal clear waters, the journey will take you through an ever-changing landscape.
Starting in Penrith, you’ll pass Greystoke Castle as you climb to the highest point on the route at Berrier. Once you have enjoyed magnificent views of iconic fells such as Blencathra and Skiddaw, you will then pass through the charming town on Cockermouth – the birthplace of William Wordsworth. You’ll skirt Loweswater and Crummock Water and then head through wild and remote moorland of the high fells before making your way down to the lowlands of the Furness Peninsular and Morecambe Bay.
Heading inland, you’ll encounter a number of pretty towns including Grange-over-Sands, before making your way to the Kirby Lonsdale and Sedbergh as you reach the lush green valleys of the Yorkshire Dales. The landscape opens out again north of Tebay with magnificent views of Great Asby Scar and Little Asby Common.
You’ll then reach the ancient and very pretty market town of Appleby before passing through a series of pretty hamlets along the Eden Valley. A final challenge awaits cyclists on Beacon Hill before a glorious descent returning back into Penrith.
