You are here: Home > Things to Do > Wildlife Tracking After Hours at South Walney Nature Reserve with Cumbria Wildlife Trust
Have this special coastal nature reserve all to yourselves for an after-hours adventure! Track wildlife across the reserve using different equipment and techniques, with the help of our expert guides.
------
Walney Island is well known for its incredible bird life – but what's less well known is the variety of wildlife that comes out at dusk!
After the nature reserve shuts at 5pm, join our experts to discover species you might not normally see, going about their lives as the sun starts to dip. We'll use camera traps and other tracking methods to spy creatures like otters, seals, badgers, bats, butterflies, moths, plus a whole host of coastal birds.
Afterwards, we'll return to the visitors hut to enjoy some locally-made soup and a soothing mug of hot chocolate. There'll be time to chat to staff and ask questions, view footage from the camera traps and (hopefully!) watch the sun sink below the horizon.
This event involves walking for up to 3 miles over uneven ground, and some of it will be in the dark. However, our friendly guides will make sure we walk at a pace everyone is comfortable with. Families are welcome, but children must be able to keep quiet during tracking!
You will need to arrive by car to access South Walney.
