William Wordsworth was born and raised in the area we know today as Cumbria, returning as a young man to settle down in the place he loved most. There are so many things to see and do, and our tours are completely customisable as to your needs and wishes.
Visit the house of his birth, situated just outside the Lake District National Park in Cockermouth. Whilst there, choose to take a stroll along the River Cocker, where Wordsworth first recognised his love of nature.
Be transported back in time at Hawkshead Grammar School, dating from 1585. This is the school young William attended as a boy – be sure to look out for etchings of his initials on the time-honoured graffiti-ridden school desks.
Dove Cottage, Allan Bank, and Rydal Mount were three of Wordsworth’s Lake District homes, all situated close to the idyllic Lake District village of Grasmere. Whilst there, make sure to grab yourselves some of the famous local gingerbread! Dove Cottage was where the poet lived when he was at the height of his poetic prowess and where you can also find a fantastic museum showcasing objects and manuscripts from his past.
Of course, the landscape of the Lake District is just as important to his life story. See some of the sites that inspired his poetry – where he saw the ‘host of golden daffodils’ that inspired ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’, or where he rebelliously stole a boat from in his youth.
Whatever your desires, and whatever the weather – join us on a tour and you’ll remember it forever!
