Over the early May Bank Holiday weekend (2-5 May) Carlisle Cathedral is holding their first ever Jazz Weekend… concerts, sax workshop, tea dance and more!
The weekend begins with the opening night concert in the Fratry Hall as we welcome Tommaso Starace (sax), Martin Longhawn (hammond organ) and Steve Hanley (drums) for an evening of classic jazz tunes. On Saturday Tommaso returns for a one-off saxophone workshop, and we switch up a gear on Saturday night with Dom Pipkin's boogie-woogie piano concert. On Sunday morning our weekly Sung Eucharist will include Bob Chilcott's Jazz Mass, sung by the Cathedral's Girl Choristers, and Sunday afternoon sees Manchester's Out of the Blue Jazz Orchestra playing tunes from the roaring 20s to the swinging 60s at our Afternoon Tea Dance – book for Afternoon Tea or just come along to enjoy the tunes (and take to the dancefloor). The weekend concludes on Bank Holiday Monday with The Big Shoes Band's Jazz Jam, back in Carlisle for one day only!
