Discover the innovative methods farmers are using to rewild Britain's landscape in a captivating photography exhibition by photographer Johannes Pretorius.
Learn about Kendal-based regenerative farmers and step into the world of Strickley, a 300-acre organic farm managed by three generations of the Robinson family. This exhibition showcases their dedication to biodiversity, as they manage extensive species-rich hedgerows and rewild woodlands and wetlands. These habitats foster a rich variety of interdependent species of microorganisms, plants, and animals, illustrating the Robinsons' restorative approaches for a resilient future.
Britain is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, with less than half of its biodiversity remaining and one in six species at risk of extinction. With three-quarters of food crops relying on pollinators, farmers like the Robinsons are crucially aligning their practices with nature to safeguard our future.
After an inspiring visit to Strickley Farm, students from Queen Katherine School created work in response to regenerative farming. Johannes has selected several of these works to be included in the exhibition.
Johannes Pretorius is a photographer who has worked on projects supported by Arts Council England, The Gaia Foundation, and Open Eye Gallery. He was commissioned in 2024 to document the Robinson family's farming practices as part of We Feed The UK; a major arts project developed by the Gaia Foundation.
Join us at Abbot Hall to explore inspiring stories of regenerative farming and the Robinson family's contributions to rewilding Britain.
Included with gallery admission.
