Morecambe Bay is dotted with coastal towns, picture-perfect villages, and fantastic high streets packed with local and national businesses.
Overlooking the sea, Arnside is a must visit for its natural surroundings and coastal views – it sits within the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Natural Beauty, and is a beautiful place to stop off while exploring the area. Make sure to enjoy fish and chips while watching the sun set over the bay.
Just across the bay lies Grange-over-Sands, with its Edwardian elegance offering a glimpse into its history as a popular coastal resort. Stroll through its charming streets, visit the ornamental gardens, and take a walk along the prom with its beautiful views across the water.
There’s also the artistic town of Ulverston, known for its festivals and bursting with creativity. Here, you’ll find the last producer of completely hand-blown and hand-cut lead, luxury English crystal; as well as traditional tea rooms, local shops, museums and more.
Further south, the Furness Peninsula is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. Dalton-in-Furness is home to wonderful local shops and eateries, while nearby Barrow-in-Furness boasts a rich industrial heritage as well as stunning nature and a fantastic indoor market and the seaside village of Askham-in-Furness has a long sandy beach which offers spectacular sunsets.
Inland, Cartmel is a charming countryside village known for its food and drink: it’s home to not one, but two Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as the popular Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding.
