Tripadvisor Traveller Rating
3200 reviewsL'Enclume is Simon Rogan's iconic flagship restaurant in the Lake District, where culinary creativity harnesses the powerful connection between food and nature.
Known for its truly unique offering in the UK restaurant scene, both for its warm, informed service style, innovative dishes and for the provenance of its ingredients, recognised as being one of the international leading lights in the farm-to-table movement.
L'Enclume currently holds three Michelin stars, the only restaurant in the north of England to do so. Alongside that, the restaurant is also ranked as the top spot to dine in the UK in the highly esteemed Good Food Guide, and also holds five AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. In 2023, it was named one of the world's top restaurants by La Liste. In 2017, Simon was recognised as the AA chef of the year and is currently president of Bocuse d'OR.
In 2009 Simon set up a farm, known as 'Our Farm', entirely dedicated to producing the seasonal ingredients for L'Enclume's ever-evolving menu. The farm was established with a very clear vision in mind; to expressly strengthen the link between food, its development and the environment, whilst setting out to further nurture and develop the relationship between cooking and growing. This is a place where growers and chefs work side-by-side, an extension of the same ethos, drive and attention to detail found Simon's restaurants.
L'Enclume has 16 elegant, individually designed, guest bedrooms are located around the village of Cartmel, each designed with their own unique style in mind, whilst retaining references to their historic surroundings.
Aulis Cartmel, which opened in 2016, provides a truly unique 'behind the scenes' experience of the Michelin-star institution. Aulis is a multi-functional high-tech space that acts as a development kitchen, which is used by Simon's chefs to explore new dish concepts and cooking techniques, but is also an exclusive, intimate and interactive private dining space for guests visiting Cartmel.
