Tripadvisor Traveller Rating
79 reviewsThe myriad of slate quarries, including the famous Catherdral Cavern close to Coniston provide a great venue to experience the thrill of abseiling. Also known as rappelling, this involves lowering yourself over a cliff backwards controlling your own rate of descent on the rope. There are a number of abseils of different lengths up to nearly 40m, or over 130ft in height so we can increase the level of challenge as you gain your confidence!
Abseiling can be suitable for all ages and abilities. We have supported many people trying it for the first time, in an effort to conquer their own fears or as a challenging adventure activity. It's a perfect team-building session or a bit of fun even when the weather is less than perfect. We have worked with the National Trust to access some of the harder to reach parts of the Lake District to help keep people safe, gained further experience training with most of the Mountain Rescue teams here and supported filming with the One Show for an interview with a wheelchair user during an abseil.
You can combine your abseiling session with some easy rock climbing, an exploration of some of the abandoned tunnels within the quarries or a scramble up a rocky ridge to a Lakeland summit.
A half day session starts from £150 and full day from £220.
More Than Mountains only uses highly qualified and knowledgeable instrutors who are incredibly friendly and passionate about what they do. We design our days in communication with you to ensure your needs and goals are met. Alongside abseiling and rock climbing we also offer guided walks and navigation courses throughout the Lake District.
