For a whole new way to experience the Lakes, why not head out on a paddleboard? An offshoot of surfing, paddleboarding is gaining in popularity – and the Lake District, Cumbria, is the perfect place to give it a go.
Many who try paddleboarding are instantly hooked, and it’s not hard to see why. Hailing from Hawaii, the sport is a great way to see the area: imagine paddling on the waters of one of our lakes as you admire the surrounding landscapes. Suitable for a range of abilities, it makes for a brilliant opportunity to experience water sports in the Lake District, Cumbria. Glide across the water as you balance on your board: don’t forget to take a moment to look around and take in the view!
You may also hear Paddleboarding referred to as SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding). At their core, they’re the same thing - the only difference being that SUP specifically refers to standing up on the board, whereas Paddleboarding includes kneeling down too.
Never tried it before? Not to worry! If you’re a beginner, or need to hire a board, head to one of our water sports centres where equipment is available alongside expert tuition. Get a feel for the water with your experienced instructor, who will help you do so safely and with confidence.
