137 reviewsBrougham Hall is a historic building with a fascinating history, located just outside Penrith.
Now home to a cosy coffee house and an array of arts and crafts studios, Brougham Hall is a hidden gem in a stunning countryside location. Take the time to explore and enjoy our beautiful grounds, visit our artists at work, buy locally made arts and crafts and enjoy refreshments at our coffee house.
Built in the 14th-century, Brougham Hall was the site of a fortified home, reaching its height between 1830 and the early 1900s. The hall was partially demolished in the 1930s and remained derelict for the next five decades until it was rescued from demolition in 1986. It is now a substantial restoration project based on a gateway to the Lake District.
You are welcome to visit our neighbouring St Wilfred’s Chapel, rebuilt in the 17th-century on the site of a 14th-century chapel.
Brougham Hall is one mile south of Penrith, just off the A6 on the B6262. If coming from Penrith, follow the signs for the A6 to Shap. You will cross Eamont Bridge and go over a small roundabout, then you will see Brougham Hall signposted to the left.
