Since 1993, Hemmingways Fishing has offered unique angling experiences and casting tuition in the Lake District. Eric A Hope, an angler and instructor with years of experience, knows all the best spots and methods for fishing and angling in the Lake District. With the wide range of options for fishing in Cumbria, we know the best fishing waters and take pride in providing world-class angling experiences. We catch and release a variety of fish, including salmon, sea trout, wild brown trout, monster pike, charr, and huge perch. You may have seen us on TV with our friend Matt Hayes, or more recently on BBC2 fishing in the rain on Derwentwater with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse.
We provide all equipment needed for a quality day's fishing, including tackle, boat (where appropriate), tuition, full insurance cover and safety equipment, excellent guide service, and our legendary shoreline lunch available by arrangement. All you need are an Environment Agency license for the day (available either online or from any post office), suitable footwear, waterproof gear, and the odd snack for the guide is always appreciated!
Guided Fishing Trips
Most days start around 9:14am and aim to finish around 4:00pm. Guided trips involve a range of fishing methods to give the best possible sport on the day. We work with a range of experience levels from beginners to expert anglers and offer the best fishing the Lake District has to offer.
For youngsters, summer fishing is a great way to introduce the sport - many junior anglers start their fishing careers on our boats, pulling in their first two-pound perch. Eric is a qualified teacher with years of fishing experience and an enhanced CRB check.
Fly Casting Tuition
For many anglers, the art and delight of Fly Fishing provides the ultimate experience. There are many ways to get your heart racing, from stealthily creeping into position to lure a wild trout from the river, to battling with a huge pike on a fly rod, to the thrilling pursuit of the mighty atlantic salmon from an exclusive spot on the Eden or Derwent.
Fly casting is an acquired skill, which a day's practical tuition can introduce you to the thrilling and elegant sport. Eric is a member of the Game Angling Instructors Association and has experience with introducing hundreds of anglers to the delights of fly fishing.
A typical beginner session involves instruction on safely and efficiently casting, culminating in a practical fishing session on either a local stocked trout fishery or down the river. By the end of the day, you'll be well on your way to becoming an excellent fly fisher.
