589 reviewsThe great thing about stargazing is that it is the ideal holiday activity that everyone can enjoy. Here in the Lake District, we are blessed to have one of the best locations in England to experience stunning dark skies.
Here at Castlerigg Hall, our holiday park is well set up to help you enjoy a night under the stars. Holiday under the night’s sky in one of our Hex Pod glamping pods. These luxurious pods fitted with underfloor heating, open plan kitchen, bed, sitting area, a private shower, wc and balcony with mountain views make for a truly special glamping experience. They are also fitted with skylights so that you can appreciate the beautiful stars from the warmth and comfort of your pod.
To help you get a closed look at the stars, guests are welcome to borrow binoculars from our Reception. We only ask for a deposit, otherwise these can be used free of charge. Furthermore, to assist stargazing visibility and the local nocturnal wildlife, we also ensure that the grounds aren’t excessively lit at night-time. Keep an eye out for our new ‘stargazing observation seating’ currently in progress, which will offer a relaxing yet more enhanced view of the night sky.
Whilst staying with us, another great spot close to Castlerigg Hall where you can enjoy the stars is Castlerigg Stone Circle. Constructed around 3000 BC, this ancient monument is probably one of the most atmospheric and dramatically sited of all British stone circles thanks to the mountains of Helvellyn and High Seat as its backdrop. The actual intention of the site is still unknown, though the arrangement of the stones in the circle suggests an astronomical link which many think may show alignments with planets and stars.
