A National Park Volunteer-led guided walk along the Keswick to Threlkeld Trail
Start point: Keswick Former Railway Station, Station Avenue, Keswick
Length: 6.5km (4 miles) with 55m (1,80ft) of ascent
Time: 2.5 hours (approx.)
Starting from the platform of the old Keswick Railway Station, the walk follows the route of the disused Keswick to Penrith Railway as it weaves its way through the Greta Valley, passing over some of the original Victorian railway bridges.
Along the way, you'll hear the story of the railway, and explore the broader industrial history of the Greta Valley. We will also look at the what's involved in the upkeep of the K2T, and the plans for its future.
Our turnround point will be at the old Plate Layer's Hut near Brundholme Bridge, from where we'll retrace our steps back along the trail to the former Railway Station. Those looking to extend their walk will have the opportunity to continue, unguided, onto Threlkeld or to return via alternative routes to the start of the walk.
The trail is surfaced with smooth tarmac over the full length, and gradients are very low. It has been designed to encourage access for all, and is well used by people in conventional wheelchairs and mobility scooters as well as people using other mobility aids. It is suitable for pushchairs. There are seats at regular intervals along the route.
Please see the Eventbrite website for full details and to book your ticket.
