Join us at The Armitt to hear Laura Day discuss her personal reflections on Nicholson's work in the 21st century after walking in the spaces he wrote about. She will be reflecting on her personal relationship with the landscape and how Nicholson forged his personal relationship via his poetry. Laura will be examining his poetry and topographical prose - including quotes from both.
It will be a talk that takes the audience on a journey through some beautiful spaces around Cumbria, interspersed with history, culture and, of course, poetry.
About the speaker
Laura has grown up in Eastern Cumbria, on a hill-sheep farm, which has influenced her academic focus particularly at PhD level. Laura's PhD looked at the 20th century poetry of Norman Nicholson (Cumbria), and how it helps us to reflect on the climate crisis of the 21st century. She completed her PhD at Durham, and is awaiting the viva in late April 2023. Previously, Laura studied for her MA at Durham, and her BA at Cambridge.
