A welcoming large and licensed cafe with lots of indoor and outside space with fabulous fell views for those blue sky Lake District days. The space has separate dog friendly and dog free areas both inside and outside. The cafe has opening hours that are “walker friendly” and also does takeaway to service those who want something for their pockets up on the hill or something to sustain a journey home.
Suitable for large groups of walkers, cyclists (there is visible bike racking) or family groups, with cosy corners for those who want a quiet conversation. Able to withstand muddy boots as a result of its bespoke made wooden furniture crafted locally from fallen local timber. An informal menu using local ingredients where possible. All the food is cooked or baked on site so everything is fresh and not from frozen. Known for our incredible cake selection, large sweet and savoury scones as well as thin crust pizzas, Napoli inspired sandwiches and hearty soups and salads, no one leaves the Gather still hungry. Our team of chefs love creating new dishes to delight as well as the staple favourites.
In warmer weather, our ice cream has become a Grasmere staple - large cones of hand made gelato to our recipe, that you won’t find elsewhere. On warm summer evening why not join us for pizza, ice cream and a beer or Prosecco whether you’re staying locally or heading home.
The cafe also serves as an outdoor community meeting point for local mountain leaders, trail runners and cyclists and the staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the local Lake District trails and love to chat about your adventures. On certain days our resident mountain leader will be available in the cafe to answer any questions. We have many trails and routes that start from our door.
