- Bitts Park

Begin the day with a gentle stroll along flat, surfaced paths in Carlisle’s Bitts Park: the first public park to be established in the city. There are several areas to discover including formal lawns, floral displays, a peaceful Riverside Trail, and the Garden of Memories: a small space for quiet reflection, created in partnership with the Eden Valley Hospice.
There’s also a large play area with a wheelchair accessible swing, trampoline, play panels, musical instruments and splash park.
- Tullie
Castle St, Carlisle CA3 8TP
Head to Tullie: a museum, art gallery and community hub showcasing fine and decorative art, human history and natural sciences. Old Tullie House is a classical Grade One Listed Jacobean building; adjacent is a purpose built art gallery, seamlessly fusing new and old. As well as permanent collections, there are always temporary exhibitions to discover.
- Carlisle Cathedral
The Abbey, Carlisle CA3 8TZ
Discover over 900 years of history at one of England's smallest ancient cathedrals. Marvel at the architecture and enjoy a moment of calm; this is a peaceful oasis for those who prefer a quieter environment.
A visual story is available to download ahead of your visit and the Cathedral is wheelchair accessible, including a wheelchair lift to the Treasury Exhibition.
Children are also welcome, with free trails and colouring activities; and additional events during the school holidays. There’s also a weekly toddler and pre-school group, ‘Little Stars’, which takes place every Friday at 10am.

Top Tip: How about Afternoon Tea in the Cathedral? Afternoon Teas are served in the majestic Fratry Hall, or in the popular Cathedral Cafe. Must be booked 48 hours in advance.
