Wainwright’s Coast to Coast is a bucket-list route for many keen walkers, taking in a vast range of landscapes on its journey from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay via the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors.
Dip your toes in the Irish Sea at the start of your walk, before striking inland on the hunt for the first views of the spectacular Lake District mountains. From there, you can enjoy the dramatic scenery through Ennerdale, visiting charming villages and hamlets along the way. Wander along lakeside paths and fellside tracks before passing into the Yorkshire Dales, complete with flower-filled meadows, welcoming inns and historic towns.
After this comes the ancient landscapes of the North York Moors, before the first glimpses of the North Sea come into view. Fewer moments are more satisfying than reaching Robin Hood’s Bay and swapping stories with other hikers in a cosy pub, drinking a well-deserved pint and celebrating the achievement of completing this iconic walk.
For those looking to stay within the Lake District, our Coast to Coast — West Section tour travels from the cliffs of St Bees to the old market town of Kirkby Stephen. Along with the glorious views of rugged mountains, sparkling lakes and pretty villages, this section boasts the impressive priory church of St Mary and St Bega, the world-famous Dove Cottage in Grasmere, and the intriguing ‘bound devil’ in St Stephen’s Church, along with countless other amazing sights to explore. In addition, all of our Coast to Coast tours are dog friendly.
